Several counties of Malatya, such as Ören, Kürecik, Dirican, Parçikan, Başören and Sinan, are home to many unique hand knotted carpet and rugs. Among many of them, there is Malatya Cicim rugs which are only made in this city. Cicim rug is a type of rug mostly made of wool and cotton. These carpets usually have birds, camels, scorpions, sheeps and various geometrical figures on them as well as flowers and other plants. These figures can be woven with colours like black, brown, beige, indigo blue and white. What makes Malatya rugs different from all the other rugs is that it is very difficult to make, as it is known it takes around a year to make one. Therefore, hand knotted rugs are incredibly rare which makes them even more valuable and obviously, more expensive.
