Milas carpet is a type of carpet made by Turkmen people who lived in the city of Milas. Milas carpets initially came into existence in the sixteenth century with the prayer rugs. Prayer rugs were smaller in comparison to the classical Milas carpets that are used now and they were used by muslims who performed salahs. Around two to three centuries later, Milas carpets had two types: traditional and baroque. Traditional Milas carpets kept the basis of the prayer carpets and had mostly spiritual shapes and patterns on it. Over time these two types became more and more divided, as of right now six types of carpets exist under the name Milas carpets. These carpets are named Ada Milas, Patlicanli, Cingilli Cafer, Gemisuyu and Elikoynunda. They are commonly dominated by shades of brown and they usually stick to the style and characteristics of the traditional Milas carpets.
