Hand Knotted All Wool Afghan Rug, Turkoman Rug (6'6" x 9')
Turkoman Rugs are a type of rug made by Turkmen tribes who lived in Afghanistan and Iran. These carpets were initially only made in Afghanistan then Afghans who immigrated to Turkey and Persia, not only taught the Turkoman rug to Turkish and Persian villagers but also sold their handmade rugs in the Turkish and Persian markets. The uniqueness of the Turkoman carpet was so popular that it ended up being produced in these countries too. While most characteristics of the carpet stayed the same in the newly produced Turkoman carpets, they also had slight differences such as the knots. But aside from that, it was almost indistinguishable. They were used for the various purposes like door hangings and tent rugs.
