Hand Wowen Wool On Cotton Turkish Kilim Rug, Milas Kilim Rug (5′ × 8′)
Milas rugs is a type of rug made by Turkmen people who lived in the city of Milas. Milas rugs initially came into existence in the sixteenth century with the prayer rugs. Prayer rugs were smaller in comparison to the classical Milas rugs that are used now and they were used by muslims who performed salahs. Around two to three centuries later, Milas rugs had two types: traditional and baroque. Traditional Milas rugs kept the basis of the prayer rugs and had mostly spiritual shapes and patterns on it. Over time these two types became more and more divided, as of right now six types of rugs exist under the name Milas rugs. These rugs are named Ada Milas, Patlicanli, Cingilli Cafer, Gemisuyu and Elikoynunda. They are commonly dominated by shades of brown and they usually stick to the style and characteristics of the traditional Milas rugs.
